Matt Dewit

Counselor, LPC

About Me
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Calvin College and my Master of Arts in Counseling from Western Michigan University. For over a decade, I’ve worked in the Grand Rapids community, supporting people through meaningful and lasting change.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent time as a wilderness instructor. That experience continues to shape my work—especially my respect for challenge, resilience, and the kind of growth that comes from doing hard things honestly.

In addition to my professional training, I bring eight years of personal experience as a therapy client in both individual and group settings, primarily working alongside men. That lived experience keeps my work grounded, human, and real.

Who I Work With
I primarily work with adult men, while also supporting adults of all genders. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and stuck—looking for clarity, direction, or deeper connection in their lives.

My Approach
My work is relational, experiential, and practical. I focus on building a strong therapeutic relationship, helping clients understand themselves more clearly, and translating insight into real change. Therapy with me is direct, reflective, and grounded in trust.

Areas of Focus
I commonly work with issues related to identity, relationships, anxiety, anger, purpose, life transitions, and emotional regulation.
